BANGALORE: IBM on Friday announced that North Delhi Power Limited (NDPL), a Tata Power and Government of Delhi joint venture company, which distributes electricity across north and north western part of Delhi, has joined the IBM-led global Intelligent Utility Network (IUN) coalition of a few selected global utilities.

It is aimed at accelerating the adoption of 'smart grid' technologies and business solutions through knowledge sharing, an IBM release said.

"The IUN will transform the way power is delivered, managed and used by utilities around the world", it said.

"The coalition members collaborate to enable rapid creation of solutions, use of open industry-based standards, and informed policy/regulation which further drives the adoption of IUN technologies and solutions", it said.

NDPL becomes the first Indian utility to join the global IUN coalition convened by IBM. The IUN coalition also includes utilities from the US, Europe and Asia-Pacific regions.

Through this collaboration, NDPL and other coalition members will also have the opportunity to benefit from the learning of other major utility companies globally, gain access to best practices as part of the maturity model, provide inputs and guide standards development and access IUN architecture councils and gain potential benefit from project 'jump starts' due to partner contribution, it said.
