MUMBAI: Screenings at various international film festivals and inaugural edition of IPL delayed the theatrical release of Amitabh Bachchan starrer 'The Last Lear', its producer Prof Arindham Chaudhari said.

"The film has received standing ovation worldwide at festival screenings," Chaudhari, who heads Planman Motion Pictures, said.

The movie has traveled to some of the most respected film festivals in the world, including official selections at Toronto, Rome, London and Rotterdam international film festivals, he said.

"Apart from film festivals, we had the IPL season early this year. Post IPL, there was a rush to release the big budgeted films. Hence, we were not finding appropriate dates," he added.

'The Last Lear', produced by Planman Motion Pictures features Arjun Rampal and Preity Zinta apart from Bachchan.

Chaudhari claimed that it was Bachchan's best performance in recent times. "For the first time, he has played an actor. This is his first English film," he said.

PVR is distributing the film which will open in theatres on September 12.

Chaudhari said that Planman Motion pictures wanted to champion the cause of independent cinema and provide market to intelligent film-makers.

Talking about his banner's performance so far, the producer said barring 'Rok Sako to Rok Lo', all his other films have done well.

"Our success rate is 80 per cent. Showbiz is a risky business. But the risk can be minimised by 20 per cent if professionally handled," he said.

His other productions include 'I am 24', a romantic comedy directed by Saurabh Shukla starring Rajat Kapoor, Ranvir Shorey, Neha Dhupia and Manjari Fadnis will release on October 12.

Also, 'Sunglass', a comic fantasy starring Konkana Sen Sharma, R Madhavan, Naseeruddin Shah, Jaya Bachchan and Raima Sen will release in November, he informed.

Chaudhari said his company is also into different stages of pre-production of four other films which will go on floors during the year.

He said his last release, a Bengali film 'Dosar'(The Companion), directed by Rituparno Ghosh was screened at the Cannes film festival and has wowed the critics and swept the box office, national and international film awards.

The lead actor Prosenjit Chaterjee won the special jury award at the national film awards for his sensitive portrayal of a straying husband.

"Our 2006 Bengali film 'Faltu' won rave reviews apart from the national award for best film on family welfare," he added.
