b_aveek@dnaindia.netHe began his career as a DJ. He then turned a VJ, a content producer for a music channel and finally a film-maker. Luke Kenny has grabbed all the opportunities that came his way.
“I took up whatever opportunities I got to keep moving ahead and grow within the entertainment industry that I was so passionately interested in,” says Luke.
His debut film 13th Floor was all of but 80 minutes and starred just two actors and was shot in six days on a digital camera inside an elevator. There was nothing conventional about it. But still Luke managed to assemble such an idea and then execute it successfully.
“I wanted to go to film school. So, along with my partner Devaki Singh, I decided to accumulate the funds necessary for it. But then we thought, why not spend the money in actually making a film? So with the money we had we constructed what was to be the smallest production,” he says.
Movies aside, Luke also has an in-depth knowledge on the rarest of music albums. This interest was mainly inculcated by his grandparents and father, who were musical professionals. “Throughout my childhood I was encouraged to go wherever my curiosity took me. Over the years that music and then film, became a passion and a way of life for me,” says Luke.
Luke has a few good words for Rock On co-stars. He says, “Purab (Kohli) has been a joy to work with since we made 13th Floor together. Arjun (Rampal) is a monolith. I knew him from his modelling days. So it was great to have someone so chilled out as a fellow actor. Farhan (Akhtar) is what I call a ‘music brother’; we have so much music that we liked in common, it was like meeting another me.”
Apart from music and films, Luke has also performed on stage quite a few times. When asked between music, films or stage performances, which one gives him a higher adrenaline rush, he says, “According to me, all of the above are pure performances.
They are my only drug.”
