It is a bit of a surprise to hear of a channel reworking the entire format of its prime-time show to accommodate a star guest. But with Katrina being there, it seems that anything is possible.
Just ask Sajid Khan, who is hosting a show called Sajid’s Superstars, on a private television channel.
Sajid, who turned director last year, has left no stone unturned to ensure that his show gets to grab the TRPs. He had got quite a few ‘big’ names from the film industry — Anil Kapoor, Farah Khan, Vivek Oberoi, Vidya Balan, Shahid Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt — to come as guests on his show for a candid heart-to-heart conversation with him.
Things were sailing smoothly till Kat baby came along.
How? Well, the format of the show required the guests and the host to interact in Hindi and this where all the trouble started. When Katrina came on the show, stuttered with her Hindi yet again and could never get her lines right.
She finally requested Sajid to switch to English.
Reveals a unit member, “Katrina could not express herself properly on the show because she does not know Hindi that well. She was feeling very uncomfortable. So, she requested Sajid to conduct the show in English. The language of the show was changed immediately keeping her star status in mind.”
There have been reports that the star’s voice gets dubbed in all her movies due to her poor knowledge of spoken Hindi but this is for the first time that a format of a TV show had to be changed because of this.
Confirms Sajid Khan, “Yes, I had to change the language of the show to English because she requested me to do so. I don’t think there is anything wrong with what. She was not comfortable in Hindi. When you are not comfortable in a language, you can not convey yourself properly.”
According to Sajid, all this was done to make his guest comfortable and ‘at home’.
He adds, “In my talk show, I want guests to feel comfortable and get things out of them. This is not easy when someone is facing a language problem. My show is all about bringing out the true self of the stars. We communicated in English all along so that she could express herself properly. She is such a popular star and I am sure her fans won’t have any problem with that.”
