The screen-writers had first put their pen downs in Hollywood and now the actors are planning an indefinite strike

Not so long ago, the screenwriters of Hollywood had gone on an indefinite strike after the demands for better emoluments were not met with. This had set Hollywood - more television than films - back quite a bit. It now looks as if there is more bad news to come. The Screen Actors Guild is threatening to go on strike if the actors are not paid the surplus amount earned by the producers.

Most of the contracts between the Hollywood actors and the major studios expired early Tuesday morning. So, the actors might refuse to sign the new contracts till their demands are met.

Ashok Amritraj, who produces films and television serials, says, “I am afraid this might hit us badly, especially those who make television serials. Some actors like George Clooney and others might not be too keen being a part of the strike but since they are a part of the guild they have no choice but go ahead with it. For my part, I have got a lot of my episodes shot, in case the strike actually happens. A lot of television producers followed that path. But I am not sure if this will help as if they actually go on a strike, then there is no telling how long it will last.”

Ashok Amritraj is in India to promote two of his next releases, Traitor, starring Guy Pierce and Other End of the line, starring Jesse Metcalfe and Shriya Sharan.

“By the end of August we are planning to release Traitor, starring Guy Pierce in 2000 odd theatres in US and here too. And after that in November we, along with Adlabs are releasing a little movie, Other End of the line, starring Jesse Metcalfe and Shriya Sharan. Other End of the Line is a classic romantic comedy with a very warm feel to it. Fifty per cent of the movie was shot in India. February next year, we plan to release Street Fighter. This film is inspired by a popular Japanese game with the same name,” he ends.
