MUMBAI: Ramesh Chauhan-promoted Bisleri International on Wednesday said the word 'Himalaya' is a generic name and cannot be used as a registered trademark.

Bisleri and Tatas are slugging it out at the Delhi High Court over the usage of the word "Himalaya". Tatas sell their mineral water under the brand name Himalayan and Bisleri sells its water with the wordings "from the Himalayas".

"Bisleri had launched its mountain water "from the Himalayas" in December 2006. We question the delay (by Tatas) in filing an objection with the authorities," Bisleri Chairman and Managing Director Ramesh Chauhan said in a statement here.

Meanwhile, both the companies have come to an interim arrangement under which Bisleri has agreed to suspend using the domain www.bislerihimalyan.com.
