DUBAI: A film festival of Bollywood's original showman Raj Kapoor is all set to begin in the Omani capital Muscat, where many of his critically acclaimed works will be screened.

The festival is being organised by the Indian embassy, in collaboration with Indian Social Club.

The films, ranging from the 1940s to the 70s, will be a tribute to the Indian film legend, whose movies continue to create magic even today.

The legendary actor, producer and director of Bollywood movies belonged to the famous Kapoor family, which has always been a part of the Indian film industry.

Raj Kapoor's works were appreciated by both the movie buffs and the laymen. He began his career at an age of eleven as a child artist and his big break came when he played the lead role in 'Neel Kamal' in 1947.

He went on to produce, direct and star in many box office hits, but one of his favourites 'Mera Naam Joker' had some different fate. It could not make it to the box office, later, however, has been acknowledged as a misunderstood classic.

Kapoor had also made issue based films such as 'Satyam Shivam Sundaram' and 'Prem Rog' in which he focussed on female protagonists.

The film festival, which is to be held from May 27 to June 10 will be formally inaugurated by Anil Wadhwa, Indian ambassador to Oman.

The organisers said the movies have been selected on the basis of availability in the archives.

The films to be shown include Satyam Shivam Sundaram; Bobby; Sangam; Jis Desh Mein Ganga Behti Hai; Boot Polish; Awara; and Barsat.
