My dad had this medical store in our home-town Bhopal. I must have been 4-5 years old then. It was a ritual that I would go and sit at the shop everyday and steal all the chocolates there. When dad learnt about this, he gave me a big lecture on values and told me never to touch those chocolates again. The next time, I went there, I kept my promise — I didn’t touch the chocolates but simply put them in my cap and brought it home to eat. Even today, I have a sweet tooth and love chocolates — I can even eat a strepsils (the tablets which taste sweet) if I don’t find a sweet.

I must have been a seven years old then. I was not a very pleasant mannered child at all. Once, I decided to do the hanging act on a glass window. And the next thing I know was that I had gone out through the window straight outside breaking the glass panes.  Thankfully, I got away with deep cut stitches on the toes only.

I was a very naughty child and had even bit my watchman on one instance. Once in school, I was completely distracted when my teacher was explaining something. I was busy playing with my pencil. Suddenly, my pencil fell down and it rolled over to a bench which was quite a few benches away from mine. I could have waited for the class to end to fetch it. But I didn’t wait. I went underneath my bench and then crawled underneath a few benches till I reached my destination. Of course, my teacher punished me thoroughly for that.

I was eight years old then. It was Diwali time and was burning crackers with my friends. Suddenly, our society watchman began yelling at us and even pushed me for disturbing his sleep at two in the afternoon. This really upset me. The next day, I along with a few friends brought this huge joint string of crackers and waited for him to sleep. Once he was sleeping well, we lit it right outside his house and the crackers wouldn’t stop for a good one minute. Of course, we ran away from the sight before he even discovered who did it.

I was in my third standard when we were doing some kind of embroidery project. I was very happy with my work and went to show it to the teacher. But my teacher didn’t like it at all and rudely told me ‘throw it in the dust-bin’. Being the obedient kind, I did just that. It happens even today — people don’t expect me to be nasty as I come across as very sweet.
