A deadly encounter

‘Parrivar’ actors Gunjan Walia and Deepti Devi met with a mishap while shooting a death scene, reports Sapana Patil Poojary

Action scenes don’t usually go without a mishap or two. When the cast of ‘Parrivar—Kartavya Ki Pariksha’ (Zee) were shooting the death scene of Dr Radha (Gunjan Walia), both Gunjan and Deepti Devi (also plays Radha) met with an accident when their car banged into a tree. Although the accident didn’t injure them seriously, it has definitely left them shocked.

Sandiip Sikcand, head of fiction department in Miditech (producer) narrates, “We were shooting the scene at Film City, Goregaon. The car, in which Gunjan and Deepti were sitting, was to be hit by a truck. But before the truck could bang into the car, the vehicle dashed into a tree. It took us a while to realise that it was a real accident. The actors were attended to and advised rest for sometime before they could resume shooting. Later, it was found that the car had a technical problem, which the driver didn’t come across during the rehearsals.”

Sandiip lightly remarks, “No wonder we got such natural expressions on their faces!”

Recalling the incident, Gunjan says, “The driver was supposed to be driving in a  zig zag  manner as per the storyline. We weren’t shooting on a slope but the road was dangerous in the sense that there was a valley on one side. Something went wrong and the car got uncontrollable and banged into a tree. It happened so fast that we couldn’t understand what was happening. The production people came running and tried to help us out.”

She adds, “The car driver was the stuntman’s associate. When some of the production people had done a trial drive with him, they had found him to be very fast. But the accident doesn’t seem to be his mistake.” Gunjan has hurt her knee and back. She says, “It was our luck that we didn’t fall into the valley.”

Despite repeated attempts Deepti did not respond to our calls.
