Why was the venue of the first ‘Global Indian TV Honours’ shifted to Mumbai from Dubai?
Yes, it’s true that we were looking at hosting it in Dubai on February 1 but it was clashing with the Shopping Festival there.
We were facing problems getting the transport support and hotel accommodation for such a large contingent of showbiz celebs, VIPs and media invitees. But next year onwards, it will surely be held at a foreign destination.
It’s being assumed that your clout will ensure a clean sweep by Balaji actors at the awards
That’s an erroneous presumption. Total transparency is among the highlights of the Global Awards. Selections will be totally on merit and would be subject to rigid formal auditing.
We have seasoned non-Balaji names including Farida Jalal, Neena Gupta, Sanjeev Sharma, Anurag Basu and BP Singh (of CID) on the panel of judges for the six main categories. Later, we will also explain on what basis the awards were decided.
How come there is not a single ‘K’ in the ‘Global Indian Honours’ title?
(Chuckles) That’s because this is an event and not a TV serial. Even in Balaji Telefilms there is no ‘K’.
How would your event live up to its grand ‘global’ tag?
It’s the sheer showmanship. We have a global star, Shah Rukh Khan, perhaps performing for the first time for a TV awards show. There would be fusion performances by TV stars and filmi celebs like Lara Datta plus spectacular ‘reality’ stuff that should jolt the audience.
What’s next on your agenda this year?
Balaji has lined up its biggest TV show ever on the 9X channel which would be announced in due course. If this new show doesn’t create history, I would feel I don’t deserve to be in the television business!
