AHMEDABAD: After theme marriages, pompous decors and wide menus, elite Amdavadis have got one more reason to spend lavishly on the occasion. It's wedsites that are becoming a hot favourite of wedding couples.

Wedding websites, popularly known as wedsites, facilitate these couples to store their most precious memories on the internet.

The new trend among city's wedding couples is to create their own domains in wedsites, which would contain all the information that couples wish to put.

Couples can choose from a variety of ethnic Indian or western templates or backdrops for their wedding sites. In addition, they can choose to make their wedsites private or public.

Vikas Sabnani, co-founder and CEO of Virtual Life Style, says, "Providing wedding details and planning events are very complex and tedious tasks. Our goal is to
enable couples to make their planning easier.

An e-invite can be put on site, with RSVP page to respond to the invitation. This would give a fair idea of guests attending the wedding."

Couples can create as many pages as they wish, right from introduction to 'sagaai', 'baraat', 'pheras' and honeymoon plans. They can post up to 1,000 pictures and embed videos. So it also becomes convenient for guests to view the celebrations who give it a miss.

The concept being popular in western countries is picking up in India as well. Hersh Jani, an Ahmedabad-based chartered accountant, says, "While surfing a wedsite, I realised that this new concept can give a preview of entire function to my relatives and friends. I recently got married and shared all the occasions with my kin in UK, US and Canada. My guest-book almost over-flowed with their compliments."

A wedsite gives a scope to a user to keep on adding features as the family tree grows. The user can also change and update designs and music.

Though many a times a wedsite is confused with a web-blog, Naresh Madnani, marketing manager of www.firstphera.com says, "Wedsites are very different from a blog as it has a linear format. Weddings are private affairs with personal stories and pictures, so we offer privacy that clients need."

For the same, Saurabh Trivedi, CEO of a company, says, "I have my own domain name and password. This way I can maintain privacy and only those people whom I invite can visit my profile, unlike a blog where every thing is an open affair."

He logged onto one such wedsite after his far-away friends were curious to know about his fiancée. Nivedita Mavalankar, a student with EDI, had altogether a different purpose to log on to the wedsite.

"I gifted it to my 'didi' and 'jiju' as their wedding gift and they were very excited about it.  I added their story and pictures of their fond memories before gifting. It came as a huge surprise to them."

The rate of getting a domain name in a wedsite costs between Rs2000 and Rs3000 for one year. An annual subscription of Rs1200 is to be paid if the client wishes to continue after one year.
