MUMBAI:  Actress Nisha Kothari, who played 'Basanti' in Ram Gopal  Varma's remake of the hit movie ‘Sholay’, says television channels have  beamed ‘incorrect information’ about the Jan 3 car accident she was involved  in. The channels reported that the actress was drunk too.

Her car hit a woman on Wednesday morning when she was waiting at the airport for her driver to pick her up.

"The television channels have got it all wrong. I was not in the car and I was certainly not drunk. I returned from an event in Nagpur. I was waiting for my car when my driver met with an accident," Nisha said.

"A lady called Inaayat was hurt in her foot. When my driver informed me about the accident, I insisted on doing the right thing. I took the injured woman to the hospital and spent two hours with her."

The actress said she hugged and comforted the injured woman while doctors treated her. "After that, she and her husband thanked me and said I could go home," she said.

The news channels next day reported that the "actress was sitting in the car and she was drunk."

"What nonsense," shoots back the actress.  Nisha apparently gave the woman and her husband her telephone number before she left. "I told them to call me if they needed anything. Then they made all kinds of false allegations against me.

They said I've promised to pay them. I really don't know what they are talking about. We didn't discuss money. I didn't even see the accident because I was not in the car when it happened. If they want to penalise my driver, I won't stand in the way."

Nisha said she was concerned because "it was my car and my driver".  "I've asked my driver to follow up at the police station. And to think that I could have easily just walked away from the situation. Does it mean one shouldn't try to help anyone?" the actress asked.

Otherwise too, the year has been unkind to Nisha Kothari.

Her performance in Varma's ‘Ram Gopal Varma Ki Aag’, the remake of ‘Sholay’, was panned.

"That's okay. I've so many offers. But I don't want to work just because I have to. It makes no sense to do five films just because I need to keep myself busy.

"On January 11, I will have a Telugu release 'Okamgaru' with Balkrishnan. I play a documentary filmmaker. In 'Shiva', I played a journalist. So, I’m living out different professions. Otherwise, I'm learning different dance forms and doing live stage shows."

The actress prefers spending free time with her family.

"I like to spend time with my family. I may have made wrong decisions, but I had no one to guide me. I think I'm growing every day. The world is as beautiful as you want it to be."
