Advani's demand mischievous: Congress

NEW DELHI: Congress has dismissed as "mischievous" BJP leader L K Advani's demand that UPA-Left Presidential candidate Pratibha Patil should disclose her assets.

Party spokesman Abhishek Manu Singhvi wondered why BJP did not bring any amendment in the respective law when it was in power for six long years.

Dubbing it as one more "political trick" of the BJP, he advised the saffron party to "re-learn" the law and Constitution.

Singhvi's comments came after Advani's appeal to the Election Commission seeking its intervention for disclosure of assets and any pending cases by candidates in Presidential poll.

In his letter, the former deputy prime minister pointed out that people fighting elections are required to disclose their assets.

"What was more mischievous is the timing and manner in which the Leader of the Opposition has made the demand," Singhvi alleged.

He claimed that the large number of proposers and seconders to Patil itself shows that she will win overwhelmingly.
