Forbes Traveler lists  the 10 best hotels in the country

NEW DELHI: When it comes to Indian hotels, the palaces take the cake.

The Forbes Traveler online has picked up Rajasthan’s Amanbagh Hotel (near Jaipur), The Imperial (New Delhi), The Oberoi Amarvilas (Agra), The Hilton (Mumbai), The Oberoi Rajvilas (Jaipur), The Oberoi Udaivilas (Udaipur), The Taj Lake Palace (Udaipur), The Taj Mahal Hotel (New Delhi), The Taj Mahal Palace and Towers (Mumbai) and Wildflower Hall (Shimla) as the ten best hotels in India.

The hotels were ranked by expert travellers based on factors such as room quality, service, decor and location.

Between Agra and Rajasthan that have highest numbers of original palaces, the latter has more hotels in the top list since here ‘traces of history echo down marble-lined hallways and into the luxurious rooms’. However, the re-creations of palaces like the Oberoi Udaivilas and the Oberoi Amarvilas near Taj Mahal, were found to be no less grand.

For the regular travelers there is a word of advice from experts: “Don’t neglect India’s booming cities: when in Mumbai, check out the iconic Taj Mahal Palace, overlooking the Arabian Sea. New Delhi has the colonial-era Imperial, which mixes Victorian, Colonial and Deco styles into one of the country’s absolute best hotels.”

With tourism in India is booming, benefiting both from an increase in foreign visitors and a growing domestic market, experts feel that no one can ignore the trend.

“Some of the most upscale international chains are looking at property now, and when they build, they’ll increase the overall level of luxury and service,” says The Forbes Traveler.
