DUBAI: Indian hotel group Country Club, which has bought Dubai's Chelsea Hotel for Dh 165 million (Rs 165 crore), plans to open more hotels in the UAE.

Country Club India will use Dubai's position as a key commercial hub for opening properties in several countries, including Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, the UK, Poland and the US, company's top official said.

"We are now looking for opportunities in Abu Dhabi and Fujairah. In the next four years we want to have at least four or five hotels in the UAE," Country Club Chairman and Managing Director Y Rajeev Reddy told reporters here.

About the choice of Dubai as the company's international headquarters, he said: "There is so much development happening here and we want to be part of it."

The company hopes to attract tourists from Dubai to 200 properties it operates across India, he said.

Reddy said aside from operating hotels under franchise deals, the Bombay Stock Exchange-listed company wants to focus on leasing properties abroad with the option of buying them later.

Dubai is the second foreign location for Country Club after Kandy in Sri Lanka.

The Dh one-billion overseas expansion is part of Country Club's target of doubling its room inventory to 10,000 in four years, Reddy added.

10kg RDX recovered in Jammu
JAMMU: Security forces on Thursday recovered 10 kgs of RDX in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir which they claimed was brought to trigger blasts during the forthcoming Amarnath yatra.

Acting on a tiff off that militants are planning to trigger blasts during Amarnath yatra and are planning to make Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) in this direction, troops launched a search operation at Khari Bujla area in Banihal tehsil of the district, official sources said.

During search, the army recovered 10 kgs of RDX, iron nails, pins and some detonators wrapped in two bags near a tree, they said, adding the operation to track down militants is on.
