NEW DELHI: Four days after the arrest of dentist Rajesh Talwar for allegedly killing his teenaged daughter Aarushi and domestic help Hemraj, Noida Police are still struggling to gather substantial evidence in the case.

While desperate attempts are being made to get police remand of Rajesh, who was sentenced to 14 days judicial custody by a local court last Friday, the probe seems to be going nowhere.

On Tuesday, a Noida court was to hear arguments for Rajesh’s police custody and also decide on the doctor’s bail plea, but the proceedings were deferred by a day after a section of lawyers struck work protesting the firing on Gurjars in Rajasthan.

The lopsided theories the cops have put forth to justify Rajesh’s arrest have given strength to his lawyer Abhijeet Chatterjee to counter their allegations in court. “They have absolutely no evidence against Rajesh. There is no concrete proof of his involvement in the crimes,” he said.

However, the cops countered Chatterjee’s claim and said they would press for police remand as “Rajesh needed to be interrogated further on several aspects of the ghastly crimes.”

A senior police officer said a team of cyber experts had been constituted to study the hard disc of Aarushi’s computer seized on Sunday. He said the cops had “clinching evidence” against Rajesh and would present it in court. He, however, admitted they were still clueless about the murder weapon and missing cell phones of Aarushi and Hemraj.
