BHANDER (MP): Renewing attack on BSP supremo and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, Lok Janshakti Party chief Ramvilas Paswan has said that her formula of social engineering "is just an old method of deceiving people."

"Playing politics on caste and religion is not a new phenomenon. This is an old method of cheating innocent people. And no one can be benefited from it," Paswan told PTI here.

"The method has been carried out by the Congress since years," he added.

Paswan, a Union Minister, termed Mayawati's policies merely a "political stunt" and said she was not serious about spreading the ideals of Dalit thinkers like Ambedkar, Jyotibarao Phule and E V Ramaswamy Naikar known as 'Periyar'.

Taking a dig at Mayawati for installing her own statues at various places, Paswan said "she has been trying to glorify herself by installing her own statues."

He alleged that the Mayawati-led BSP has put the ideology of Ambedkar "on the back burner".

"We will not let the ideology of Ambedkar die. We will continue to spread the ideologies of Ambedkar, Jyotibarao Phule and Periyar among the masses," he asserted addressing a public meeting on Friday.

Paswan was here to inaugurate a two-day health camp organised by Steel Authority of India Ltd (SAIL) at Vijaya Raje Scindia College.

Talking about the Bundelkhand issue, Paswan said the governments of UP and MP are playing politics.

"If they were concerned about the region's development, the people would not have been left thirsty and starving," he said.

The union minister also criticised Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan for not utilising funds meant for Bundelkhand's development.

"The real face of the state government is exposed when the Chief Minister on one hand, thanked me for allotting sufficient amount of food grains but on the other hand staged dharna back in Bhopal," Paswan said.

Unlike other parties, Paswan claimed that his party's struggle was against poverty and not against any religion or caste.

"We are determined to lit the lamp in those houses which are in dark for centuries. Our struggle is for education, preservation of culture and empowerment of the poor," he said.
