NEW DELHI: A Delhi Police ASI who, along with his six colleagues, allegedly extorted over Rs 19 lakh from a doctor involved in the kidney scam for letting him go scot-free will face a test identification parade (TIP) in Tihar jail.

A court here on Saturday gave its nod for the TIP of ASI Ravinder Kumar Singh who, along with his colleagues, extorted the money from Dr Upender, allegedly linked to scam kingpin Dr Amit Kumar.

Metropolitan Magistrate Chandrashekhar, allowing the plea of Economic Offence Wing of Delhi Police, directed the CBI to produce Dr Upender in Tihar Jail for identification of accused Singh on February 18.

Investigation officer (IO) Arvind Kumar told the court that the TIP of the accused police officer was necessary to confirm the identity of the persons whom Dr Upender allegedly paid the money to keep law-enforcers at bay.

Singh was arrested on February 14 following reported statement of an accused in the kidney transplant case that he and his six colleagues had taken Rs 19.85 lakh from the driver of Dr Upender for releasing him after he was nabbed in a raid on his clinic in Gurgaon.

Investigating officer Arvind Kumar said efforts were on to arrest the absconding policemen who joined ASI Singh in extorting money from the doctor.

The police said the accused was kept under watch after news report hinted at his involvement in extorting money from the kidney racket accused.

All the accused Delhi Police officials had got a hint about the racket much before it was busted but they preferred to extort money from the doctor than filing an official complaint, the IO said.
