Lieutenant governor had called north Indians law-breakers

NEW DELHI: Delhi lieutenant governor Tejinder Khanna’s anti-north Indian statements have forced chief minister Sheila Dikshit to take matters in her own hands to bring the crisis under control.

To stop Khanna from making more irresponsible statements against north Indians, Dikshit called him up on Thursday to express displeasure at his statements against north Indians, who form a major chunk of the voting population in the capital.

“The CM has expressed dissatisfaction over Khanna’s remarks. She told him that this was the second time that he had landed the ruling Congress in an embarrassing situation,” said an informed source. Leaving no stone unturned to stop Khanna from causing any further damage to the government, a delegation decided to meet him to express resentment against his statements.

Even as politicians from different parties battle it out to draw mileage from Khanna’s statements, prominent residents of Delhi have asked Khanna to watch his words.

“The statements were completely out of the hat. He should mind what he says before generalising people and communities. This is a sad symbol of our leadership who hold constitutional posts and make such irresponsible statements,” said Adhiraj Singh, a leading polo player from Delhi. Animal rights activist Mike Pandey said: “The statements were not in good taste. He should not make such statements about people. The world is made of good and bad people and those who hold sensitive posts should watch what they say.”

Another prominent Delhite, fashion designer Jatin Kochar said: “It’s sad that politicians are making such racial comments without understanding the consequences. “Any comment against any community is certainly not welcome.”
