The customs officials at the Chatrapati Shivaji Internation Airport (Sahar Airport) in Mumbai have come under the scanner of the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) after the arrest of an online drug trading company official in Coimbatore.

“We are trying to investigate how the parcels got cleared in customs at Chennai and Mumbai,” an ACB official said. He added that the NCB was also on the job to identify the sources of supply and distribution channel.

According to the NCB officials, D Ramakrishnan, who represented a New York-based company was taken into custody in Coimbatore on charges of exporting prohibited drugs and psychotropic substances online to various countries since 2005.

The company, which had registered with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for trading in consumer articles, used to purchase drugs from local pharmacies and dispatch it to the destination in packets, a senior NCB official said.

The online trade did not have the approval of narcotics commissioner and that the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act was violated, the ACB officials said.
