LONDON: Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul Haq could be prosecuted if he fails to turn up as a witness in the racial discrimination suit filed by sacked Australian umpire Darrell Hair against the ICC at the Central Office of London Tribunals.

Inzamam, who was served the witness summons last Friday, has left for Pakistan without contacting Hair's lawyer Finers Stephens Innocent, according to a report in 'The Times'.

The 37-year-old left, after his contract with Yorkshire ended, in the hope that he would be selected in the home series against South Africa, which starts October 1.

The opening day of the first Test in Karachi coincides with the first day of the hearing here.

Despite the summons being legally binding, the tribunal cannot force Inzamam to appear for hearing. Hair's battery of lawyers want the Pakistani to be examined during the hearing.

Hair will arrive for hearing on Friday.
