CHANDIGARH: Amrik Singh, son of Rajya Sabha MP and legendary wrestler-actor Dara Singh, was on Friday arrested here for allegedly assaulting and outraging the modesty of his own wife.

Amrik was arrested with three others, including his maternal uncle and lawyer, following a complaint made by his wife Amrita Randhawa.

He has been charged with outraging the modesty of his wife, assault and trespass, a police official investigating the case said.

The couple have been going through divorce proceedings for the last one year, though they live in the same house in Chandigarh's upscale Sector 8.

The incident took place in the house late on Thursday.

Amrik said just before his arrest that he had caught his estranged wife with another man in her room in their house here.

"Is it a crime to take to task someone who has trespassed into your house in the middle of the night?" asked Amrik, who runs Dara Singh's 'Dara studio' in Mohali town, 10 km from here.

Amrik's father Dara Singh, who hails from Punjab, is a Rajya Sabha MP. He started as a wrestler and gained international fame in the 1960s. He went on to join films, making a name for himself in films like "Rustom-E-Baghdad" and in recent blockbusters like "Kal Ho Naa Ho".

Dara Singh also made a mark in television, particularly in his role as Lord Hanuman in "Ramayana".
