Rahul Bose says Bollywood is ready to tackle subjects on children and also make them popular among a wider audience group.

NEW DELHI: Although Rahul Bose's latest film Chain Kulli Ki Main Kulli, popularised as a children's film, fell flat on its opening week, he believes that movies on kids have a huge market potential.
Rahul, who had earlier called his film to be the first good effort to revive the neglected children's film industry, which has only produced a few memorable movies in recent times, says Bollywood is ready to tackle subjects on children and also make them popular among a wider audience group.
Chain Kulli Ki Main Kulli is about the journey of a 13-year-old orphan boy who wants to become a famous cricketer. Rahul plays the role of an Indian cricket team captain trying to pull out his team from a rough patch.
"The kids audience section has tremendous money and has loads of potential," the cerebral actor said in an interview.
"The television industry is far ahead than the film industry when it comes in making children centric subjects. It has been providing entertainment for children for a long time. Bollywood is slowly getting conscious towards the so far neglected section of audience comprising of children."
The actor also anticipates a bright future for the animation industry although he has no plans to venture into the field.
"In the coming years, there will be a boom in the animation industry. Aditya Chopra's (Yash Raj Films) collaboration with Walt Disney Co for a series of Indian language animated feature films to be made in India is a step in the right direction," said Rahul.
He gives the credit for the huge success of Hollywood superhero flicks in India to our desi superhero Krrish.
"The latest Hollywood superhero film 'Spider-Man 3' churned out record collections at box office because after "Krrish" the Indian audiences can relate more to the superhero concept".
Spider-Man 3 grossed Rs.335 million in India in its opening week with a record 588 prints distributed across the country, later increased to 597 in the second weekend.
Commenting on the debate whether Indian cinema has global appeal or not, Rahul said: "First of all Bollywood doesn't represent Indian cinema. It constitutes a large part of it.
"Also, I don't think it is as yet at par with global cinema. And there is no need to be. Every nation has a different tradition of entertainment, and we have our own style."
The seasoned actor, whose acting in Chameli and Jhankar Beats earned him critical acclaim, will now wow the audiences with his performance in Rajeev Virani's The Whisperers, a two-man psychological thriller.
The movie has won awards for best editing and best film in the thriller genre at the 40th World Fest in Houston and is expected to release in three to four months. Rahul shares the screen space with Manoj Bajpai in the thriller.
His other projects include Aparna Sen's global film The Japanese Wife, Santosh Sivan's Before the Rains. Rahul will soon start shooting for Samar Khan's Shaurya, a courtroom drama. He, however, did not divulge the storyline of the movie.
