Big B has landed himself in big trouble. Maharashtra Revenue Minister Narayan Rane on Saturday said the farmland purchased by the superstar and his son Abhishek Bachchan at Lonavala will be ‘seized’ by the government if it was found that he had used fraudulent means to purchase the property.

Rane’s statement came close on the heels of the Pune Collector Prabhakar Deshmukh saying that his office will reopen a probe into the 8.6 hectare farm land acquired by the duo near  Pavna Lake in Lonavala.

Deshmukh’s office decided to take a fresh look into the case after the Faizabad District Magistrate on Friday cancelled the land deed for about two acres of agricultural land allotted to Amitabh in Barabanki, Uttar Pradesh, on the ground that he was not a farmer.

“The order of the Faizabad DM is expected any day. The moment we receive it, we will reopen the inquiry,” Deshmukh told DNA. Under section 63 of the Bombay Tenancy and Agricultural Lands Act, 1948, agricultural land in Maharashtra can be purchased only by farmers.

The Mulayam Singh Yadav government in Uttar Pradesh had allotted three bighas (about 70,000 sq ft) of prime land in Barabanki district to Amitabh, who used the allotment as a testimonial to establish his credentials as a farmer to buy the agricultural land in Pune district for himself and son Abhishek.

The Pune District Collector in March 2006 had written to the Barabanki District Magistrate for authentication of Bachchan’s testimonial. In March 2006, Amitabh produced documents approved by the Uttar Pradesh government that certified him as a farmer who was cultivating agricultural land in Daulatpur village of Uttar Pradesh.

The Bachchans had acquired the land with a lake side view, located a mere 2 km from Pavna Dam, from Laxmiprasad Mahavirprasad Singhania.
