After a brief hiatus, the actor is re-launching himself as a producer

Actor Rahul Bhatt who is best known for his portrayal of an uncaring husband in the television serial ‘Heena’, is returning to the small screen after five years; this time as a producer. His first production, a tele serial ‘Meri Doli Tere Angana’ will launch this month on Zee.

Rahul who had become a popular face after Heena had shifted his focus to films but met with little success. He says, “Success and failure is not in our hands. I only believe in trying my best. Hence, I decided to take a sabbatical and chalk out my future plans. I felt the need to divert my interests. And since I took keen interest in the aspects of production, I decided to start a production company. In fact, anything about this medium interests me to take it up. In the meantime, I started developing concepts for films and television. Growth is television industry has leaped tremendously!,” he laments.

Talking about ‘Meri Doli Tere Angana’, he says, “It is the story of how a man’s past comes back and affects his present life.” So will his serial too be over the top? Rahul says, “I cannot say that I did not compromise with the script. I did have to modify the story to accommodate it to the present viewing style. But I don’t want my serial to fool the audiences by showing them overdramatic incidents although I am not against those who do that all the time. I will try to strike a balance between what I like and what the audience wants.”

It seems like the marginal success of his films has not discouraged him as he is gathering himself to get re-established in the industry. So what are the lessons that life has taught him? “To keep mum,” he laughs. “I have realised that silence is the best part of discipline. I shall allow things to happen first before I speak. So far, there have been promises alone. Big roles in big films have fizzled out mysteriously. People tell me there are ‘camps’ in the industry. There are people who recommend their people. But I told myself that I am capable of doing it on my own. I shall push myself even if no one else does. I am going to be optimistic and progressive,” he adds.

Though Rahul has turned producer, he makes it clear that he is still interested in acting. “I want to act in films. I am readying myself for it.”
