Radio One chief Rajesh Tahil quits

MUMBAI: Mid Day Multimedia has announced that Rajesh Tahil, chief executive of Radio One, has communicated his decision to move on. Tahil said he has decided to become an entrepreneur in partnership with Aakar Patel, ex-editor of Mid-Day. He will move to their content outsource company Hill Road Media full-time by the end of June. Tahil was group publisher for Mid-Day’s print portfolio before he took over as chief executive of the company’s joint venture with the BBC and has been instrumental in the national roll-out of Radio One.

Commenting on his decision, Tahil said: “Mid-Day has been an absolutely fantastic experience for me. I am delighted to have had the opportunity to work on some great projects especially Radio One, which has gone from a one city set-up to a substantial national play in a short period of time”

Tahil began his career in advertising working at Lintas and SSC&B Lintas for 5 years; before joining Radio One, formerly known as Radio Mid-Day, as head of programming. He then moved to television as director-programming, for Channel [v]. He had also taken on the role as vice-president - content and portal management for Star Interactive (a NewsCorp venture).He then returned to Mid-Day as business head of the radio division and set-up Radio FM Station.

Mid-Day will be looking to replace Tahil over the next two months. Tariq Ansari, managing director of Mid-Day, will take a larger role in the radio operations in order to facilitate the transition. He said: “Rajesh has been an integral part of our radio plans for many years now. While we are sorry to see him leave, he will continue to be associated with Mid-Day in a consulting capacity to ensure that the transition to new leadership is a smooth one.”
