11 arrested on charges of cricket betting

BANGALORE: Police here on Sunday claimed to have busted a World Cup cricket betting ring by arresting 11 people and seizing Rs62.6 lakh from them.

Following a tip-off, several places in Kempegowdanagar, Hanumanthanagar and Chamarajpet police station limits were raided on Saturday, officials said on Sunday.

Initially, the alleged kingpins of the racket, Laxmana, Vasudeva and Ajit, were arrested.

Based on information provided by them, a police team led by Deputy Commissioner Alok Kumar nabbed another eight persons who were members of the racket.

A total of Rs62.6 lakh was seized from them.

A hunt is on for three more persons involved in the racket, police said.
