Accenture to quadruple consulting staff base

Accenture is quadrupling its management consulting capabilities in India as it gears up to service more contracts and support clients in the domestic market.

NEW DELHI: Accenture is quadrupling its management consulting capabilities in India as it gears up to service more contracts globally and support clients in the domestic market.

The Hamilton, Bermuda-based company, which is also into technology services and outsourcing, had said on Monday it will add 13,000 consultants to its already existing 13,000 over the next three years globally,l including in the US, the UK and Germany.

But in India, Accenture will hoick management consulting staff strength from 500 currently to 2,000 by August 31, 2008. This is apart from increasing its staffing to 35,000 to tap low-cost workforce for outsourcing jobs.

Accenture expects India to play a key role in its global consulting practice by leveraging local brainpower.

“Expanding our management consulting capabilities in India will benefit both domestic clients in India go global and clients in other markets come to India,” said Mark Foster, Accenture’s group chief executive- management consulting and integrated markets.

Foster sees India’s intellectual and research & development capabilities benefiting Accenture clients around the globe.

“We are actively recruiting management consultants, professionals with deep industry and functional expertise, and graduates of India’s top business schools.”

In his Monday statement, CEO William Green said Accenture is taking on business from companies that need help managing customer relations, finances and supplies as they expand overseas. With approximately 150,000 people in 49 countries, the company generated net revenues of $16.65 billion for the fiscal year ended August 31, 2006.

The expansion of Accenture’s management consulting capabilities in India includes additional growth in the company’s consulting analytics centre in Delhi.

This unit provides Accenture’s global client base with access to consulting skills such as customer, marketing and data analytics; marketing automation and campaign management; and enterprise performance management.

“Strong growth is expected across most industry sectors in India, and businesses here are becoming more sophisticated in their buying of services and more amenable to investments in technology, all of which provides opportunities for Accenture,” said Harsh Manglik, chairman and managing director of Accenture in India.

“As the first global consulting firm in India - we’ve been operating here since 1987 - we are well-positioned to combine our management consulting, technology and outsourcing capabilities to provide clients, both domestic and global, with comprehensive services that enable them to become high-performance businesses.”
