WASHINGTON: The prime suspect in the 9/11 terror strikes in the US, Khalid Sheikh Mohammad, has confessed to plotting to attack American and Israeli embassies in India and other places besides beheading with his 'own blessed hand' Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl.
In all, Mohammed said he was responsible for planning 28 attacks. His comments were included in a 26-page transcript put out by the US Department of Defence on Thursday, which blacked out some of his remarks.
Mohammad said he plotted to bomb the US and Israeli embassies in India, Australia, Azerbaijan and Japan. The facilities have not been attacked.
"I was responsible for the 9/11 operation from A to Z," Mohammed said.
The Pentagon blacked out a portion of the transcript in which Mohammad is said to have confessed to the beheading of Pearl, until the journalist's family was notified. Mohammad has long been a suspect in this gruesome killing.
The number three in the al-Qaeda network said he "decapitated with my blessed right hand the head of the American Jew, Daniel Pearl, in the city of Karachi, Pakistan."
"For those who would like to confirm, there are pictures of me on the Internet holding his head," he said.
Pearl, the 38-year-old South Asia bureau chief of the WSJ was abducted from Karachi on January 23, 2002, while working on a story about Islamic militants.
Mohammad said he was the "operational director for Sheikh Usama (Osama) Bin Laden for the organizing, planning, follow-up, and execution of the 9/11 operation."
His statement was read during a closed door military proceedings at the Guantanamo Bay Naval station.

The Pakistani national is also said to have confessed to planning assassination attempts against Pope John Paul II, Presidents Bill Clinton and Pervez Musharraf.
