SRINAGAR: Hurriyat hawk Syed Ali Shah Geelani is likely to travel abroad for treatment of his cancer as the authorities have started processing his application for the travel documents.
Geelani, who is battling with kidney cancer, has asked the government to release his passport so that he could travel abroad for the treatment. The Hurriyat hawk is, at present, admitted to the Apollo Hospital in Delhi. "We can't say when his passport will be issued. But we've started processing his application which was pending before us," said S Ramalu, Regional Passport Officer, Srinagar.
One of the kidneys of the ageing leader was removed some years back after it showed the malignant growth. A few weeks back, he developed complications in another kidney prompting him to consult doctors at the Apollo Hospital in Delhi.
His deputy, Mohammad Ashraf Sahria, has also appealed to the government to release his passport.
