Jockey arrested for cheating

MUMBAI: A jockey was arrested on charges of cheating for allegedly slowing down his horse, who started as favourite to win the race, at the Mahalaxmi Race Course in South Central Mumbai, police said on Monday.

Rajusingh Ramsingh Soda (20) was arrested following a complaint lodged by the race course authorities, police said.

Soda was riding the horse 'Mazan' who started as favourite in the race on Sunday but finished third causing losses to those who had placed bets on him.

"With the intention that his horse must not win the race, Soda pulled the reins of his horse causing losses to those who had placed their bets on the horse and the owner and trainer of the horse," police said.

The Royal Western India Turf Club which conducts the races, had suspended the jockey immediately after the race following allegations of race fixing.
