Ananya anew

Sai Deodhar is glad that she has made her presence felt despite entering an already ongoing show.

Talking about her experience as the new Ananya in ‘Ek Ladki Anjaani Si’ (Sony) she says, “The show’s got an extension. Shakti (Anand, husband) and I started off as co-stars. So it was a great opportunity to work together again. Our onscreen chemistry has got better. In fact, the TRPs of the show have also increased.”

Sai’s Shakti

“It’s been fun working with Shakti. He is my best critic,” says Sai who had played an air force officer with Shakti in ‘Saara Akaash’ before getting married to him. However she adds, “We respect each other and would never impose anything on each other.”

Kanchi vs Sai

Ask her if she had to face any comparison with actor Kanchi Kaul, whom she replaced as the lead and Sai claims, “Honestly, comparison is a part of life.”

On second thoughts she adds, “But not really, I was not trying to be her. I gave Ananya a new look. I am competing with myself.” She adds, “Kanchi is a good friend.”

Just ‘work’ it

For someone who had taken a two-year break after her marriage, this year is going to be work-oriented. “I had taken work lightly since the past two years. But this year I’m back to working full-time.”

This year Sai along with Shakti also plans to be a part of her mother Shrabani Deodhar’s (famous Marathi cinema director) film, which will be a home production. So isn’t she skeptical about audiences getting bored of the couple pairing together again?

Sai retorts, “People tell us that they would love to see us together again. ‘Ek Ladki’ has proved this.” Of the future she says, “In a few years from now, I see myself as a successful mother, who is also acting and directing.”

Anniversary agenda

Shakti and Sai will be celebrating their second wedding anniversary on the 30th of this month. “Our anniversary this year is going to be special. Last year Shakti was busy shooting. This year we plan to take four days off and head to Cairo.”

She adds, “Marriage has stabilised me. In fact, I have more freedom now. I am in a much better position to experiment and experience.”

She signs off giving advice to aspiring actors, “It’s good to have passion. But always have a backup plan in life.”
