The BSE benchmark Sensex on Wednesday gained 89.76 points and closed at 13,706.53 on a strong rally in capital goods and auto stocks on sustained buying by funds and retail investors.

MUMBAI: The BSE benchmark Sensex on Wednesday gained 89.76 points and closed at 13,706.53 on a strong rally in capital goods and auto stocks on sustained buying by funds and retail investors.
The Bombay Stock Exchange key index, Sensex, also set an intra-session peak at 13,740.53 as stocks led by Larsen and Toubro, BHEL, Tata Motors, Bajaj Auto, Maruti Udyog and Tata Steel registered significant gains.
The wide-based National Stock Exchange index Nifty gained 36.50 points at 3954.75, after touching a record high of 3960.00.
Stocks of Siemens Ltd hogged the limelight on reports that the company has bagged a mega contract worth Rs 4,000 crore from Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation.
The counter closed at Rs 1330.65, nearly 9.63 per cent higher.
