MOHALI: Shane Watson was rendered a doubtful starter for Australia's Champions Trophy match against India on Sunday after the batsman had to be hospitalised following complaints of chest and stomach pain.
A decision on Watson's availability would be made in "due course", team physiotherapist Alex Kountouris said.
"Shane experienced severe chest pain this morning and we decided to take him to hospital to investigate and manage the problem," he said.
"He had a range of tests, the results of which indicate that he has gastroenteritis, which commonly causes heart-burn and chest pain."
Kountouris added that the player would be "re-assessed later this evening with a view to bringing him back to the team hotel tonight."
Watson was unlucky to miss out on the World Cup in 2003 despite being in the squad due to a stress fracture in the back.
