Bollywood inhibitions finally shed by PTV

The I&B Ministry informed that the money generated shall be deposited to the Pak President’s Relief Fund for quake survivors.

LAHORE: According to information and broadcasting minister Mohammad Ali Durrani, the June 25 telethon will be nine-hours long. The money generated shall be deposited to the Pakistani President’s Relief Fund for the earthquake survivors. A star-studded glitzy event speaks more of the diplomatic initiative that the Pakistani government has taken with regard to cultural exchange between the neighbours. The President has given  special permission for the telethon. An official dinner has also been arranged in their honour in Karachi on June 24.

The Indian contingent includes Sridevi, Amisha Patel, Shilpa Shetty, Neha Dhupia, Zeenat Aman, Jackie Shroff, Javed Akhtar, Shabana Azmi, Aftab Shivdashani, Urmila, Ameesha Patel, Prem Chopra, Gulshan Grover, Rishi Kapoor, Rimii Sen, Dino Morea, Celina Jaitley, and Raza Murad. They will be accompanied by their colleagues from Pakistan, including Nadeem, Samina Peerzada, Reema, Zeba Bakhtiar, Javed Sheikh, Nayyara Noor, Asghar Nadeem Syed, Haseena Moin, Tina Sani, Arshad Mahmood, Anwar Maqsood, Fehmida Riaz, Talat Hussain, Shahnaz Sheikh, Marina Khan, Rahat Kazmi, Fakhir, Sania Saeed, Nauman Ejaz, Shehzad Roy, Hamayun Saeed, Mehr Hassan, Saquib Malik, Rashid Khawaja, Jamal Shah and Strings. While the producers of the telethon have seemingly chosen a lively selection of comperes for the show – Tausiq Haider, Ayesha Sana, Ali Salman, Rubina Ashraf, Nighat Rizvi and Fakhr-e-Alam of the (in)famous Feroz Khan episode that finally banned Feroz from coming to Pakistan.

Other than the official reception for the Indian guests, special arrangements have been made by the PTV to make the occasion look plusher. In order to celebrate the epic Prithviraj Kapoor movie, Mughal-e-Azam, which earned the distinction of being the first Indian film in 40 years to be permitted for screening in Pakistani theatres, the set for the telethon has been designed according to the Mughal era, incurring an expense of Rs25 lakh.
