Last year, Aishwarya Rai and Mallika Sherawat made their presence felt at the Cannes Film Festival. This year, it’s going to be Preity Zinta and Karan Johar — only the total Indian representation is going to be much larger with as many as 65 Indian films being showcased.
To enable Indian filmakers like Ronnie Screwvala, Bobby Bedi, Ravi Chopra, Boney Kapoor, Sudhir Mishra, Dev Benegal and Suneel Darshan to interact with international film celebrities, the Film & Television Producers’ Guild of India (FTPGI) has decided to host a reception on May 19.
“The Guild has always been participating at Cannes, but this year we are taking it a step further. This reception will cash in on the growing interest in Indian cinema worldwide,” says Amit Khanna, President, FTPGI.
Incidentally, Karan Johar will also be putting up a stall at the film market there to “make the right contacts to tap the overseas distribution market.” s_shubha@dnaindia.net
