6 killed, many injured in Manipur building collapse

IMPHAL: Six persons were killed and over 15 injured when a building which was being demolished collapsed at Singjamei area in Imphal west district of Manipur on Saturday, official sources said.

The three-storey building on the Imphal-Moreh national highway 39 near here, collapsed when it was being demolishing by labourers as part of Manipur government's highway expansion plan, sources said.

Most victims were labourers, sources said adding the injured were rushed to the J N Hospital and Regional Institute of Medical Science and Hospital here.

Condition of most of the injured was stated to be very serious, hopital sources said. Some labourers were still trapped under debris of the building and rescue efforts were on, sources added.
