The Chatuhshrungi police have filed a case against MLA Vinayak Nimhan, his corporator son Sunny Nimhan and driver for allegedly restraining a person and trespassing at Sai Plots Society area on Sus Road. The decision to file the case was taken after the police officials held a meeting with all plot holders from the society following a tiff between Nimhans’ and Wing Commander (Retd.) Arun Deshmukh.

Vinay Kunjir, who owns a plot in the area, filed a complaint against the Nimhans and their driver with the Chatuhshrungi police station. The police have slapped sections 341 (Punishment for wrongful restraint), 447 (punishment for criminal trespass), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 504 (International insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace) of IPC, 1860 against them.

The decision to hold a meeting between the police officers and plot holders of the society was taken after Deshmukh met chief minister Prithviraj Chavan and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Thursday.

Deshmukh has already filed a complaint with Chatuhshrungi police accusing Nimhan and his son of using anti-social elements to spread terror in the area and beating him up on his plot on Sunday afternoon.

Speaking to dna, Deshmukh said, “Nimhan has been eyeing my property. It is my legal property and Nimhan cannot grab it. On Sunday, the MLA and his son were hiding near his under-construction bungalow. I was inside the bungalow and as I came out, the duo punched and kicked me. Both abused me, holding me responsible for creating awareness among other plot holders who are at loggerheads with Nimhan. The MLA wants to grab my plot.”

Police inspector (crime) Subhash Nikam of Chatuhshrungi police station told dna, “We have registered a case against MLA Nimhan, his son, driver and another person under relevant sections of ICP, 1860. Once we get evidence, we will arrest them.” He said the police had called a meeting of all 14 plot owners on Friday and visited the plot as well.

Deshmukh said, “We were called for a meeting today. The police have registered a case and assured us of taking legal action against the Nimhans.”

Meanwhile, MLA Nimhan has denied the charges leveled against him and his son. In a press communique issued on Friday, Nimhan said Deshmukh had filed a similar complaint against him last year too. According to Nimhan, he had put up a fence to safeguard his land. “Deshmukh has cut the fencing wires and filed a false complaint against us. Deshmukh and one Ravi Barate wanted to malign my political career.”

Nimhan has also given an application to the police demanding that a detailed investigation be carried out in the matter and appropriate action be taken against the duo.
