Pune: Forty-eight hours after the blast took place at Faraskhana police station injuring five people, examination by forensic experts revealed that apart from use of ammonium nitrate, products like petan (pistol shell gun powder used in air rifles) and petroleum product was used for wider impact. They suggest that unlike earlier theory of a crude bomb, it wasn't put together by novices after all.
A police officer said, "The blast component was prepared very calculated manner unlike the other blasts which took place in city. The initial reports suggest that the bomb was crude, forensics reveal each component used in the blast explosive was accurate. The handling of placing the bomb in bike was also done properly. All the wires were well connected to three batteries in the bike attached to the bomb."
The forensic expert revealed that while in most cases detonator's are found to be of iron material, this time steel detonator was used.
"We suspect the bomb was made in a workshop or in a garage. One of the blast components was petroleum indicating that it was made for a wider impact so that other bikes too catch fire and it spreads. We are trying to analyse that if bomb was assembled properly, was it a deliberate low intensity or something went wrong?" said the source.
In the meantime caught on a sticky wicket after a bomb was planted in a police station's parking premises, the city police chief has directed all the police stations to deploy additional manpower to secure the police station premises.
The city police who saw a youth parking the bike in which bomb was planted at 6.30am at police station, they have launched a manhunt at city lodges and rest houses.
Meanwhile the Satara connection is also being probed well. An ATS official said that the town is on their radar since two years. In 2013, after a chargesheet was filed by National Investigation Agency in Arms Act in which it was claimed active sleeper cells operating in Satara and Marathwada areas, focus has been increased in these towns.
