In a shocking revelation, it has come to the light that the crematorium guard Namdev Rokade who raped a BCS college student on Sunday night in Wadgaonsheri, had nine other cases registered against him. But the security agency that hired him did not follow the standard procedure of police verification.
A day after his arrest,Yerawada police checked if Rokade had any previous cases against him and it was found that there were 9 other body offence cases against him since 2009.
Vikas Deshmukh commissioner Pune Municipal Corporation said, "We had decided to suspend Rokade after the media reports but then we found that he was hired by a private security agency Spider Security contracted by the Pune Municipal Corporation. The agency should have conducted proper verification of its guards as it is mandatory. We have asked the agency why it was not done."
The agency in question has 246 guards at its disposal and now stands to lose all the contracts it was awarded by the PMC.
Police Sub-inspector D P Chavan who is investigating the case said, "Spider Security was expected to conduct police verification before deploying its men at public places. We will filing another case against the agency since it is a serious lapse."
The nine cases registered against Rokade since 2009 till 2011 include five non-cognizable offences for assault, and an Arms Act case among others.
