Pune: With the intent to save a child’s life, a 25-year-old jumped into a canal. However, instead of becoming a knight in shining armour, the youth is feared to have drowned, while the boy managed to hold on to a pipe, which saved his life.
Swargate police have identified the youth as Hussain Shabir Boxwala, a resident of Raviwar Peth, and missing case in this regard has been registered at the Swargate police station. The incident occurred at around 5 pm on Sunday at a canal situated near Golibar Maidan. A team from the Pune Cantonment Board’s fire brigade has been trying to look for his body for over 24 hours.
Sub-inspector Pramod Kathane of Swargate police station said, “A10-year-old boy had come to play cricket along with his friend at Golibar Maidan ground near PCB. The boy went to take a sip of water from a tap near the canal. The area is slippery and he fell into the canal. Boxwala jumped in to saved the boy. A local resident alerted police control, who rushed to spot. However, the boy drifted 30 feet into canal but managed to hold a pipe and come up. Boxwala, though, is untraceable and a fire brigade team is trying to fish out his body for past two days.”
