PMC makes it easier to complain about irregular lifting of trash; also launches online facility.

A new SMS alert service has been launched by the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) where Puneites can send an SMS to complain about piling up of garbage in their locality.

A simple SMS containing the message [ALERT G container location] has to be sent to 9223050607 from any mobile number and a complaint is registered with the PMC. This service was launched a fortnight ago and is catching up among the citizens, who are concerned about sanitation in the area.

Suresh Jagtap, head of the solid waste management department of the PMC, told DNA, “This service has been launched under the sanitation department. This is to ensure that all garbage in the city is lifted regularly. There are complaints by citizens that sometimes there is no lifting of garbage and it is difficult to complain. Thus making it easier, we have launched this SMS service for people to tell us the location of the garbage, which will help us keep the city clean and green.”

There are two ways to complain: one can log on to www.pmcalert.org and click on ‘garbage alert’. The other is to send an SMS to 9223050607 ALERT G Container Location. The citizen’s application will reach the PMC ward office staff via SMS. The complaint will be registered in virtual register in the computer server. The applicant will get an acknowledgment and a complaint number by SMS. The PMC ward office staff will contact you in case more information is needed.

“The PMC staff will receive a simple SMS form to fill the action and status of the complaint. They will fill the action and status of the complaint and forward the SMS form to 9223050607. The action and status of corresponding complaint will be updated in the virtual complaint register,” added Jagtap. The applicant will receive action update.

Corresponding ward office management staff will get status report in PDF format every Monday.
