Pune: In a shocking incident, a Class-VIII student allegedly committed suicide after the Class IX boy she fancied, refused to accept her ‘marriage’ proposal. The deceased, identified as Anjali Tukaram Bende (14), was the resident of Akurdi. She had set herself ablaze at her residence on the evening of March 28. The Nigdi police have filed a case of accidental death and are probing further.
S B Naik-Patil of Nigdi police station said, “Deceased was a Class-VIII student. Initially, we thought that she has committed suicide out of exam fear. But after inspecting her bag, we found a 200-page notebook where she expressed her love for a boy studying in Class-IX. She has written in that letter that she would die if he doesn’t except her proposal.”
Constable Sunil Shinde, who is investigating the case said that they had the concerned boy’s statements. According to the boy, from the last two months, the girl was sending him poems and letters. But last month she had proposed him but the boy did not accept her proposal. He then informed the deceased girl’s parent about her proposal. On March 27, she had called him on his mobile but he refused to talk claiming that he was studying for his examination. The constable added, “The girl’s parents have admitted that she had a liking for the boy but they are still in state of shock.”
