The Mundhwa police, who are probing the suicide of national archer Pratima Boro (22), feel that she may have killed herself due to break-up with an international archer with whom she was going steady. Police have done a scrutiny of Boro’s call detail records (CDR) and questioned the international archer to whom Boro made over a dozen calls before she took the extreme step.

Boro committed suicide in her room at the Army Sports Institute (ASI) near Pingle Wasti in Mundhwa on Friday. She had come to the city on April 26 to participate in the ongoing national team selection camp at ASI.

The suicide remained shrouded in a mystery as the police did not recover any suicide note from the room. This prompted the cops to not only scrunitise her CDR but also record the statements of archers attending the special camp.

Speaking to dna, assistant inspector HH Sengar of Mundhwa police station said, “After the incident, we recorded the statements of other players and ASI authorities. We also checked her call details and came to know that she made calls to an international archer, who is also attending the camp.”

“In his statement, the international archer told us that he and Boro were going steady and broke up in 2011 because they were from different religions. He told Boro that they can’t marry as they believed in different faiths but they can remain friends,” an investigator from Mundhwa police station, who did not want to be identified told dna.

The investigator added, “When we checked Boro’s phone call details, we came to know that she had made more than 12 calls to the international player on May 1 and 2. We suspect that differences may have cropped up again between the two over the issue. Before taking the drastic step, Boro did not make any call to her parents.”

According to API Sengar, the police are yet to record the statements of Boro’s parents. “Our team will be leaving for Assam to record their statements. We need to ascertain the reason behind her suicide,” he said.

Another senior police officer on condition of anonymity said, “The international archer told us that his parents knew about his relationship with Boro. We feel that Boro’s parents too must be having knowledge about their affair. It will be clear only after recording their statements.”
