In yet another New Year celebration ruckus, a bunch of hooligans, who were boozing on the roadside on Fergusson College Road on the night of December 31, beat a 32-year-old businessman who warned them not to create nuisance near his house and asked them to go away. The hooligans injured him by hitting him on the head with an empty bottle of liquor.

A complaint in this regard was registered by Vishal Sawant, resident of Fergusson College Road with Deccan Gymkhana police station.

The police said they have registered a case and one of the suspects has been identified as Vishal Kakade.

The complainant said he was watching television at his residence and at midnight, he heard noises outside and went out to investigate.

“When I went outside, I saw four people drinking liquor near our house and one of the suspects’ face was familiar,” said Sawant. When he tried to shoo them away, they started abusing and beating him up.

“When I tried to retaliate, they hit me with liquor bottles on my head and took away my cellphone, a gold chain and ran away,” he stated. Meanwhile, the family members came to the spot and took Sawant to hospital.  “We have identified one person and the search for him has been intensified,” said police sub-inspector Bhushan Dayama of Deccan Gymkhana police station.

The cops have registered a case.
