Pune: With an aim to curb the menace of autoriksha drivers, the Pune Regional Transport Office (RTO) has now come with a new plan to catch hold of the repeated offenders and provide instant feedback to the complainants. It is indeed a good news for people facing issues like refusal by riksha driver to ply to short distance, their rude behaviour and fast meter.

The Pune RTO will be adding a new software in their existing website http://www.rtopune. This software will help the RTO officials to keep a tab on the repeated offender as well as give feedback to the complainants about the action taken on their complaint.
Speaking on the issue, deputy regional transport officer Anil Valiv, who has been working on the up-gradation of the software said, "As of now there is no way to track the repeated offenders, the new software will help to keep a track on this. More than 80 per cent of the work has been completed and we will be able to start the service by the end of this month."

As many as 1,335 complaints were received in the last 15 months against auto rickshaw drivers. About 700 complaints were received for refusal to ply, 392 for overcharging, 135 for rude behaviour and 108 for fast meter. In a bid to curb the increasing number of cases against auto rickshaw drivers, the RTO officials are also planning to take strict action against the errant auto rickshaw drivers.

Pune regional transport officer Jitendra Patil said, "With the increasing number of complaints against auto rickshaw drivers, we will be cancelling the permit for 60 days for all those who have more than four complaints against them in 12 months. As of now the complainant does not get any feedback about the complaint registered by him, with the help of the new software we will be able to revert back to the complainant by an email and an SMS."

"With the increasing number of complaints against auto rickshaw drivers, we will be cancelling the permit for 60 days for all those who have more than four complaints against them in 12 months." said Regional transport officer Jitendra Patil.

The Auto Rickshaw Panchayat claims that though the action will be harsh but at the same time it will help to provide better service to the passengers.
Conveyor of the Rickshaw Panchayat Nitin Pawar said, "We have to ensure that we are providing better service to our passengers. The action by the RTO will be a bit harsh, but it will help to change the mindset of the errant auto rickshaw drivers as they will think twice before refusing the passengers or behaving rudely with them."
