Citizens are getting emails asking for online transfer of money for the election campaign of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal.

The functionaries say the party has engaged many agencies in its fund-raising campaign and are not in a position to identify authentic email ids..

The email circulated in the name of Arvind Kejriwal states — “My fellow Indian, Delhi goes to elections in November. I have been traveling across Delhi extensively. There is a strong undercurrent in your party’s favour. From a few seats to a thumping majority. These are the projection of various experts. AAP would put up candidates in all 70 constituencies. Your party will not put up any candidates with criminal backgrounds. Your party will not put up more than one person from the same family.”

The mail further reads, “We need money to contest elections and are vastly under resourced. According to election commission rules, a candidate should not spend more than Rs14 lakh in an assembly poll.”

“There are 70 constituencies in Delhi. Therefore, we would need Rs10 crore. Unlike all other parties that are funded by vested interest and undeclared funds, we are directly raising money from the public in an open and transparent manner. I seek your time and generous donation in this mission. It’s now or never. A few of us can’t make it happen. But together we can. The donation is online national and international debit card or a cheque or DD in favour of Aam Aadmi Party at their office, “ the mail adds.

Kejriwal could not be contacted despite repeated attempts. Speaking to dna over the phone from Mumbai, AAP official spokesperson Preeti Sharma-Menon said, “In a mass email campaign, email is sent from database provider’s email server, via a masked email id. When one gets such an email, (s)he should check the landing page after opening any given link which should open the main domain website.”

AAP’s Pune unit treasurer Shrikant Acharya said, “I am unaware about such an email in circulation or a fund raising campaign. I was out station for my personal work.”
