Shiv Sena executive president, Uddhav Thackeray on Tuesday blamed Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar for failure of the Pune Pattern.

Clarifying that they had joined hands with the NCP for development and not politics, he said the experiment failed due to Pawar’s arrogant attitude.

Concluding the campaign of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Shiv Sena and the Republican Party of India (RPI) in the city on Tuesday, Thackeray said the Pawars were busy getting sanctions for Lavasa project while the development works in Pune were suffering.

“What is the use of them having power in the state and the centre? What did they bring for Pune in so many years? We can show them what we did in Mumbai without the support of state or centre,” he said.

Ajit Pawar says he will develop Pune if voted to power, but when the BJP and Shiv Sena ruled the state, major projects like the Mumbai-Pune expressway were carried out and Hinjewadi IT hub was developed.

“We did not say we would do it only if Puneites vote us to power in the city. Why didn’t they improve public transport in Pune, clean the river, sanction the development plan long back, why are projects stuck? Land was acquired but schemes did not materialise,” he said.

Those who registered cases against  Ganeshotsav mandals could not trace the culprits behind the German Bakery blast, he said.

He assured the people of setting up an advanced general hospital in the city and providing better public toilets for women. He said health issues of women would be taken seriously and measures taken to provide them better health facilities.

RPI chief Ramdas Athavale came down heavily on Maharashtra Navnirman Sena president Raj Thackeray and said his “engine” was fuelled by the Congress and the NCP. He said the followers of Babasaheb Ambedkar were politically exploited by the Congress and the NCP.

The rally, jointly organised by the BJP, Shiv Sena and the RPI received a lukewarm response as half the pandal was empty.
