RC Thakur, the chief promoter of the controversial Adarsh CHS, was under the impression that the land in question was in possession of the local military authority (LMA), but did not inform the Ministry of Defence (MoD) about their plans of acquiring the land. Thakur revealed this in front of the two-member commission set up to probe the Adarsh CHS scam on Wednesday.

“While applying to the government of Maharashtra for allotment of the land in question, I did not write even a single letter to the MoD, though my impression was that it was in possession of the local military authority,” said Thakur.

Although Thakur did not bother to inquire about the possession of the land with the LMA, he informed the commission that the civilians who helped the society in the allotment of the land to the society were included as members of the society. “We included civilians in this list because we had taken the help of civilians to get allotment of the land to the society,” he said. The important civilians who helped the society in getting the land were Kanhaiyalal Gidwani and his two sons Amit and Kailash, informed Thakur.

The ownership of the land has been one of the many issues of conflict pending before the commission.
