A sessions court today rejected the bail of suspended senior police inspector Pradeep Suryavanshi, arrested in a fake encounter case, even as the prosecution filed an over 300-page supplementary charge sheet in the case.

The police have since January this year arrested 11 persons, including Suryavanshi and suspended encounter specialist Pradeep Sharma, for their alleged involvement in the fake encounter of Ramnarayan Gupta, a suspected aide of gangster Chhota Rajan.

Gupta was allegedly shot dead in an "encounter" by a police team led by Sharma and Suryavanshi on November 11, 2006 in suburban Versova.

A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to probe into the case following a directive from the Bombay high court.

Principal judge ML Tahalayani today rejected the bail plea of Suryavanshi after observing that it was a serious offence and prima facie there was evidence against the accused.

Meanwhile, the prosecution filed an over 300-page supplementary chargesheet in the case which included the statements of additional witnesses.

The court will hear Sharma's bail plea on September 17.
